Belt-Drive Heads
Drive heads that transmit motor torque to the drive shaft through V-belts and sheaves, allowing pump speed to be changed by swapping sheave ratios. They are widely used where speed is adjusted mechanically rather than with a variable frequency drive.
Direct-Drive Heads
Drive heads in which the motor couples to the rod string through a gearbox or direct shaft connection without belts, reducing footprint and maintenance. Speed is typically controlled by a variable frequency drive on the motor.
Permanent-Magnet Motor Drive Heads
Direct-drive units built around a permanent-magnet motor that runs at low speed and high torque without a gearbox. They offer compact, high-efficiency operation and fine speed control across the PCP operating range.
Hydraulic Drive Heads
Drive heads powered by a hydraulic motor fed from a separate power pack, providing stepless speed and torque control. They are used where electric power is limited or where smooth, infinitely variable speed is required.
Backspin-Control Drive Heads
Drive heads equipped with hydraulic or mechanical braking to dissipate the stored energy released when the rod string and fluid column unwind after shutdown. Controlled backspin protects the wellhead, rods, and personnel from rapid uncontrolled rotation.
Fail-Safe Braking Drive Heads
Drive heads with a spring-applied, hydraulically or electrically released brake that engages automatically on power loss. The brake holds or controls the string during unplanned shutdowns to prevent dangerous backspin.
Hollow-Shaft Drive Heads
Drive heads built with a hollow drive shaft through which the polished rod passes, allowing rod height and pump spacing to be adjusted at the polished rod clamp without removing the head. This design simplifies on-site rod adjustment.
Stuffing Box and Sealing Assemblies
Polished rod sealing units mounted below or integrated with the drive head to contain wellbore pressure and fluids around the rotating polished rod. They use packing or mechanical seals rated to the wellhead working pressure.
