Drillpipe Float Valves

A spring-loaded plunger that moves along the valve axis to open under downward circulation and seat against backflow. The full-bore design tolerates lost-circulation material and is favored where a positive, robust shutoff is needed.

A hinged flapper that swings clear of the bore during forward flow and seals on a seat when flow reverses. Flapper designs offer near full-opening bore that eases the passage of wireline tools and balls.

Float valves with a small orifice or ported plunger that allows the string to self-fill while tripping and permits standpipe pressure to be read. Used where pressure-while-drilling monitoring or controlled fill-up is required.

The short tubular housing with box and pin connections that carries the float valve and threads into the bottom-hole assembly. Sub bore and connections are sized to the drill collar or drillpipe thread series in use.

Manually operated ball or plug valves installed above and below the kelly to isolate string pressure and shut in the well from the top of the string. The lower kelly cock can be stripped through the BOP if needed.

Check valves that can be stabbed or dropped into the open string during a kick to stop upward flow while a full-opening safety valve is installed. They restore a one-way barrier when the standing float is bypassed or absent.

Service kits comprising plunger or flapper cores, springs, seats, and elastomer or metal seals that renew a float valve to its rated condition. Kits are matched to the valve model and service class, including sour-service elastomers.
