Mud Pulse MWD Tools
Survey and telemetry systems that transmit data to surface by generating pressure pulses in the drilling fluid column. They are the most widely used MWD telemetry type and operate in positive-pulse, negative-pulse, or continuous-wave (siren) configurations.
Electromagnetic (EM) MWD Tools
Systems that transmit data as low-frequency electromagnetic waves through the formation rather than through the mud column. They enable telemetry in air, mist, foam, and underbalanced drilling where mud pulse signals cannot propagate.
Gyro While Drilling (GWD) Tools
Survey systems using gyroscopic sensors instead of, or alongside, magnetometers to determine azimuth. They provide accurate surveys near magnetic interference such as casing and adjacent wells, supporting anti-collision work.
Logging While Drilling (LWD) Sensors
Formation evaluation instruments run with the MWD string to record petrophysical measurements such as gamma ray, resistivity, density, and porosity while drilling. They support geosteering and reduce the need for separate wireline runs.
Near-Bit Subs and Sensors
Short subs positioned close to the bit that measure inclination, gamma ray, or vibration nearer the cutting face than the main MWD package. The shorter sensor-to-bit distance improves geosteering response in horizontal sections.
High-Temperature MWD Tools
MWD assemblies rated for elevated downhole temperatures using qualified electronics, batteries, and seals. They are applied in deep, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT), and geothermal wells beyond standard tool ratings.
MWD Drill Collars and Probe Housings
Non-magnetic drill collars and pressure barrels that carry the MWD electronics and sensors within the drill string. Non-magnetic alloys prevent magnetic interference with the directional sensors, and machined collars also house battery and pulser sections.
Surface Systems and Decoders
Rig-floor decoders, pressure transducers, and software that detect the telemetry signal and convert it into displayed survey, toolface, and logging data. They include the depth-tracking and data acquisition components linking the downhole tool to the directional driller.
