Emergency Shutdown Systems
Product Families
ESD Logic Solvers and Safety PLCs
SIL-rated controllers (safety PLCs or hardwired/solid-state logic) that read trip inputs, execute the cause-and-effect logic, and de-energize outputs to drive the process to a safe state. They are certified to IEC 61508 and applied within an IEC 61511 safety instrumented function.
Emergency Shutdown Valves (ESDV)
Fail-safe isolation valves, usually fail-closed ball or gate valves, that stop process flow on a trip signal. They are sized for fast closure and tight shutoff and are commonly fitted with spring-return or accumulator-backed actuators.
Wellhead and Surface Safety Valves
Surface safety valves (SSV) and wing/master valve actuators that isolate the well at the Christmas tree on a shutdown command. They tie into the ESD and are governed by API 6A and the surface safety practices of API RP 14C.
Hydraulic and Pneumatic Shutdown Controllers
Direct-acting hydraulic or pneumatic control panels, pilots, and relays that vent actuator pressure to close valves without electrical power. Pressure pilots and hi-lo sensors trip the loop on high or low line pressure.
Fire and Gas Detection Systems
Integrated detection of flame, smoke, combustible gas, and toxic gas that signals the ESD logic to initiate isolation, blowdown, and alarms. These systems are designed under IEC 61511/61508 functional safety and coordinate with deluge and suppression.
High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS)
Fast-acting instrumented systems that protect downstream piping and vessels from overpressure by closing dedicated valves before relief is required. HIPPS is an independent protection layer engineered to a verified SIL per IEC 61511.
Blowdown and Depressurization Systems
Blowdown valves and associated logic that route process inventory to flare or vent to reduce pressure during an emergency. They limit escalation by lowering stored energy in vessels and piping after isolation.
Emergency Fire Suppression Systems
Deluge, water mist, foam, and clean-agent suppression initiated automatically by the F&G/ESD logic or manually at hazardous facilities. These systems protect personnel and equipment once a fire is confirmed.
