Spring-Loaded Pressure Relief Valves
Self-actuated valves held closed by a spring that lifts at a defined set pressure to relieve overpressure and reseat as pressure falls. They are the workhorse relief device on vessels, separators, and piping, supplied in conventional, balanced-bellows, and full-nozzle configurations.
Pilot-Operated Relief Valves
Relief valves whose main valve is controlled by a pilot that senses system pressure, allowing operation close to set pressure with tight seating. They suit high-flow, high set-pressure, or variable back-pressure services where spring valves give excessive simmer or leakage.
Rupture Discs and Bursting Devices
Non-reclosing membranes that burst at a predetermined pressure to provide instantaneous, leak-tight overpressure relief. They are used alone for one-shot protection or upstream of relief valves to isolate the valve from corrosive or fouling fluids.
Tank Vents and Conservation Vents
Pressure and vacuum relief devices that protect low-pressure storage tanks from overpressure and collapse during filling, emptying, and thermal breathing. Conservation (breather) vents minimize vapor loss while venting per API 2000 and are often paired with emergency relief vents and flame arrestors.
Annulus Pressure Relief Systems (APRS)
Wellhead-mounted assemblies that monitor and relieve sustained or trapped casing annulus pressure, including B-annulus management. They release thermally or operationally induced annular pressure to maintain casing integrity over the well life.
High-Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS)
Instrumented safety systems that detect high pressure with sensors and rapidly close dedicated valves to isolate the source before relief or flare capacity is exceeded. HIPPS provide a measurable safety integrity level under IEC 61511 and can reduce required flare loading.
Frac and Pressure-Control Relief Devices
Relief valves and rupture discs rated for the high pressures and abrasive, multiphase fluids of stimulation and pressure-control operations. They protect frac iron, manifolds, and treating lines from overpressure during pumping.
Safety Relief Valves for Gas and Liquid Service
Relief valves selected for compressible (gas/vapor) or incompressible (liquid) relieving cases, with trim and orifice sized to the relevant scenario. Gas service emphasizes full-lift pop action while liquid service uses modulating relief for stable flow.
