BARTEC, operating as BARTEC Top Holding GmbH, is a Germany-based manufacturer of explosion protection and safety technology equipment for hazardous area operations. Founded in 1975 in Bad Mergentheim, Germany, the company invented the first explosion-proof switch for gasoline pumps and has since expanded into a global operation with over 1,000 employees, 11 production sites, and more than 50 subsidiaries worldwide. BARTEC operates through five business units: Electrical Safety Systems, Electric Heating Technology, Enterprise Mobility, Process Analyzer Technology, and Petrochemical. The company manufactures intrinsically safe mobile devices, wireless connectivity solutions, process analyzers, trace heating systems, explosion-proof lighting, energy distribution equipment, and automation controls. BARTEC serves the oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, hydrogen, and manufacturing industries. In August 2025, private equity firm One Equity Partners agreed to acquire BARTEC from a consortium led by Bridgepoint Credit and Alcentra. The company maintains production facilities in Germany, the UK, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Saudi Arabia, China, and the United States (Chicago). North American sales operations are headquartered in Houston, Texas.
