Covia Holdings Corporation

Covia is an industrial minerals and materials company providing high-quality mineral solutions to diverse industrial markets across North America. Formed in 2018 through the merger of Unimin Corporation (founded 1970) and Fairmount Santrol Holdings (founded 1978), Covia was one of North America's largest integrated suppliers of industrial minerals and oilfield proppants. The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020 under the majority ownership of Belgian industrial minerals company SCR-Sibelco NV. In July 2024, Covia completed the separation of its Energy and Industrial businesses. The industrial division (Covia Solutions) retained the Covia name and headquarters at Independence, Ohio, while the energy/proppant division was divested and subsequently merged with Black Mountain Sand to form Iron Oak Energy Solutions in November 2024. Covia now operates exclusively as an industrial minerals supplier serving ceramics, glass, coatings, polymers, metals and foundry, building products, water filtration, and sports and recreation markets. The company maintains more than 40 mining and processing sites across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, employing approximately 3,000 people. Operations include wet processing, micronization, resin coating, chemical flotation, and custom toll blending capabilities. Covia's logistics network includes access to nearly all major Class One railroads and an extensive terminal distribution system. The company opened a new innovation center in Concord, North Carolina in 2025.
