Double Eagle Energy is a privately held, land-centered exploration and production company headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, with a primary focus on the Permian Basin. Co-founded in 2008 by Cody Campbell and John Sellers, the company acquires oil and gas leases, working interests, mineral rights, and royalty interests across multiple U.S. basins. Double Eagle has executed over $13 billion in cumulative transactions across its predecessor entities, including the $6.4 billion sale of DoublePoint Energy to Pioneer Natural Resources (2021) and the $4.1 billion sale of Double Eagle Energy IV to Diamondback Energy (2025). The current entity, Double Eagle Energy Holdings V, was formed in April 2025 with $2.5 billion of committed equity capital from EnCap Investments, Elda River Capital, Apollo Global Management affiliates, and Double Eagle Management. The company operates approximately 96 employees across offices in Fort Worth and Midland, Texas, and has historically operated in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Tumbleweed Royalty, its minerals division, manages royalty and mineral interest acquisitions alongside the E&P operations.
