SandBox Logistics

SandBox Logistics is a proprietary containerized proppant storage, handling, and wellsite delivery company founded in 2012 and acquired by U.S. Silica Holdings in 2016 for approximately $218 million. Headquartered in Katy, Texas, SandBox operates across all major U.S. shale basins including the Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken, DJ, and Marcellus with approximately 300 employees at six locations. The company's patent-protected system uses steel weatherproof containers holding up to 22.5 tons of sand each, gravity-fed to eliminate silica dust exposure and pneumatic transfer hazards. Customized conveyor cradles deliver proppant directly into blender hoppers at up to 25,000 lbs per minute. SandBox provides an integrated mine-to-wellsite logistics model that reduces delivered costs, increases transportation efficiency through faster truck turns, and minimizes wellsite footprint compared to traditional silo-based systems. Halliburton selected SandBox as its preferred provider for last-mile proppant logistics in 2017.
