Sperry Drilling

Sperry Drilling is a Halliburton product service line (PSL) and an acknowledged global leader in directional drilling, measurement-while-drilling (MWD), logging-while-drilling (LWD), and drilling optimization technologies. Originally incorporated in 1929 as Sperry-Sun Well Drilling Company, a joint venture between Sun Oil Company and Sperry Gyroscope Company, the brand pioneered magnetic directional surveying and introduced the first LWD neutron, density, and electromagnetic wave resistivity tools. The Sperry-Sun operation passed through NL Industries (1981), Baroid Corporation (1988), and Dresser Industries before becoming part of Halliburton through the 1998 Halliburton-Dresser merger. Today, Sperry Drilling delivers engineered drilling solutions including the iCruise rotary steerable system family, iStar intelligent drilling and logging platform, EarthStar ultra-deep resistivity services, and the LOGIX automation and remote operations platform. The division serves operators worldwide across unconventional land, conventional, deepwater, and extended-reach applications with tools rated up to 392 deg F (200 deg C) and 30,000 psi (207 MPa). Halliburton company-wide revenue was approximately $22.9 billion in 2024 with roughly 48,000 employees globally across all divisions.
