Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection is a global leader in fixed and portable gas and flame detection systems, backed by more than 100 years of combined industry experience. The division was formed in August 2019 when Teledyne Technologies completed the $230 million acquisition of 3M's gas and flame detection business. The company unites four established brands: Oldham (fixed gas detection, founded in France with origins dating to 1848), Simtronics (flame detection), Gas Measurement Instruments/GMI (portable gas detection, Scotland heritage), and Detcon (industrial gas detection, founded 1983 in Cypress, Texas), along with select Scott Safety products. Teledyne GFD manufactures approximately 75,000 gas and flame detectors and controllers annually from its primary manufacturing facility in Arras, France, with additional manufacturing and engineering operations in Cypress, Texas. The company serves industries including oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, food and beverage, mining, marine, pharmaceutical, and wastewater treatment. Products carry international certifications including ATEX, IECEx, SIL, CSA, CE, FM, INMETRO, and others. The company operates globally through direct sales, regional offices, and a worldwide network of distributors and manufacturer representatives, with an estimated 501-1,000 employees across its operations.
