Induction Motors (Three-Phase)
Conventional oil-filled, two-pole squirrel-cage induction motors that develop torque through induced rotor currents. They are the standard ESP prime mover and run at a fixed synchronous speed tied to line frequency unless driven by a variable speed drive.
Permanent Magnet Motors (PMM)
Synchronous submersible motors using permanent magnets in the rotor, offering higher efficiency, higher power density, and a shorter, smaller-diameter package than induction motors of equal output. They require a dedicated drive for commutation and speed control.
Single-Section Motors
A motor built as one stator/rotor housing for lower horsepower and shorter-string applications. The simplest configuration where the required power fits within a single section length.
Tandem (Multi-Section) Motors
Two or more motor sections coupled in series on a common shaft to achieve higher horsepower than a single section can deliver. Used in deep, high-rate, or high-lift wells requiring large input power.
High-Temperature Motors
Motors built with upgraded insulation systems, high-temperature dielectric oil, and elastomers rated for hot wells, steam-assisted, or geothermal-influenced production. Selected when bottomhole or fluid temperatures exceed standard motor ratings.
Slim / Small-Diameter Motors
Reduced outside-diameter motors designed to run in slim casing, monobore, or restricted-clearance completions. They trade cross-sectional area for fit, often requiring tandem stacking to recover horsepower.
Motor Lead Extensions (MLE)
The flat, lead-jacketed cable splice that connects the main ESP power cable to the motor pothead and runs past the pump and seal section. Sized and rated to match motor voltage and downhole temperature.
