Steel Sucker Rods
Solid carbon- or alloy-steel rods produced per API Spec 11B with forged upset ends and threaded pins, forming the load-carrying body of most rod strings. Supplied in standard diameters (e.g., 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1 in) and lengths (typically 25 or 30 ft).
Sucker Rod Grades (C / D / K)
Material/strength classifications under API 11B: Grade C (AISI 1536 carbon-manganese, medium strength), Grade D (carbon or alloy, higher tensile strength for heavier loads), and Grade K (alloy steel with improved corrosion resistance for mildly corrosive service).
Fiberglass Sucker Rods
Pultruded fiberglass-reinforced epoxy rod bodies with steel end fittings, offering light weight, corrosion immunity, and elastic stretch that can increase pump displacement in deep or fluid-pound-prone wells. Usually run in combination strings with steel rods.
Polished Rods
Smooth, precision-machined rods that form the top of the string and reciprocate through the stuffing box / pumping tee, providing a sealing surface against the polished rod liner and connecting to the surface unit via the carrier bar and rod clamp.
Pony Rods
Short sucker rods (commonly 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 ft) used to fine-tune total string length so the pump spaces out correctly relative to the pumping unit stroke.
Sinker Bars
Heavy, large-diameter rods placed at the bottom of the string to add weight, keep the lower rods in tension on the downstroke, and reduce buckling, compression, and rod-on-tubing wear—particularly useful with fiberglass strings.
Sucker Rod Couplings
Internally threaded connectors that join rod pins end-to-end, available in full-size and slimhole (sub-coupling) sizes and in plain, spray-metal, or hardened-surface variants to resist wear in deviated or abrasive wells.
Rod Accessories (Guides, Protectors & Gauges)
Ancillary items including molded rod guides/centralizers that reduce tubing wear, thread protectors that shield pins and couplings during transport and handling, and ring/thread gauges used to inspect connection dimensions.
