Recuperative Thermal Oxidizers
Oxidizers that preheat incoming process gas using a shell-and-tube or plate heat exchanger recovering energy from the hot exhaust. They suit moderate, steady VOC loads where continuous heat recovery of roughly 50-70 percent lowers auxiliary fuel use.
Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO)
Oxidizers using ceramic media beds that alternately store and release heat through cycling valves, achieving thermal energy recovery commonly above 90 percent. They are favored for high-volume, dilute VOC streams where fuel efficiency is the priority.
Direct-Fired / Thermal Recuperative Combustors
Enclosed combustors that oxidize waste gas in a refractory-lined chamber without media beds, sometimes with minimal heat recovery. They handle variable or high-BTU oilfield vent gas, such as tank flashing vapors, as an enclosed alternative to open flaring.
Catalytic Oxidizers
Oxidizers that pass preheated gas over a precious-metal or base-metal catalyst, allowing destruction at lower temperatures (typically 600-900 deg F) than purely thermal units. They reduce fuel demand but require streams free of catalyst poisons such as silicones, halogens, and heavy metals.
Tail Gas Incinerators / Thermal Incineration Units
Combustion units that incinerate residual or off-spec gas streams, including sulfur-recovery tail gas and acid-gas vents, to destroy combustibles and convert reduced sulfur species before release. They are applied where downstream vent gas still carries combustible or odorous constituents.
Chlorinated / Halogenated Hydrocarbon Oxidizers
Oxidizers engineered for streams containing chlorinated or other halogenated VOCs, using corrosion-resistant materials and downstream acid-gas scrubbing to neutralize the hydrogen chloride and other acid gases formed during combustion.
NOx Abatement Systems (SCR / SNCR)
Add-on nitrogen oxide controls integrated with oxidizers: selective catalytic reduction (SCR) injects ammonia or urea over a catalyst, while selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) injects reagent into the high-temperature zone without a catalyst, each converting NOx to nitrogen and water.
Vapor Combustion / Enclosed Combustor Units
Self-contained enclosed combustors that capture and destroy intermittent low-pressure vapors from storage tanks and vapor recovery towers, providing smokeless, shrouded combustion that meets visible-emission limits at production sites.
