Two-Phase Separators
Vessels that split the wellstream into gas and total liquid, used where the liquid stream does not need to be further divided into oil and water at the separator.
Three-Phase Separators
Vessels that separate gas, oil, and water into three discrete outlets, using a weir or interface controls to hold the oil-water boundary; standard for produced fluids with significant water cut.
Test Separators
Skid- or trailer-mounted separators, often rented, fitted with meters on each phase outlet to measure individual well oil, gas, and water rates during well testing and early flowback.
Flowback / Frac Sand Separators
Heavy-duty and sand-handling separators used immediately after a stimulation job to manage high-rate, abrasive, solids-laden returns, frequently paired with upstream cyclone (desander) units.
Free-Water Knockouts (FWKO)
Vessels that remove the bulk free water from an oil-gas-water stream ahead of treating, reducing the liquid volume that downstream heater-treaters and separators must process.
Heater-Treaters
Combined separation-and-heating vessels that apply heat (and sometimes electrostatic grids) to break oil-water emulsions and meet pipeline or sales water-content specifications.
Vertical Separators
Tall, small-footprint vessels favored for high gas-to-liquid ratios, surging flow, or sand-prone service where a conical bottom aids solids removal.
Horizontal Separators
Long, large-interface vessels that provide greater gas-liquid contact area and liquid retention time, preferred for high liquid loads and three-phase duty.
