Elevators
Hinged clamping devices that latch around a tool joint, casing collar, or pipe body to suspend the tubular string from the hook or bails during hoisting. Available as side-door, center-latch, and single-joint types sized to the pipe and load rating.
Slips and Power Slips
Wedge-action gripping devices set in the rotary table bowl to suspend the string when it is not on the elevators. Manual rotary slips are set by hand, while power slips (spiders) are hydraulically or pneumatically actuated for hands-free setting and release.
Power Tongs and Iron Roughnecks
Powered wrenches that grip and rotate tubulars to make up and break out threaded connections. Stand-alone power tongs handle casing and tubing, while floor-mounted iron roughnecks combine spinning and torquing functions at the well center to apply and measure makeup torque.
Power Catwalks
Mechanized conveyor and skate systems that move individual joints or stands between the pipe rack at ground level and the rig floor. They replace manual pipe rolling and the cathead-and-rope method, presenting tubulars to the well center under power control.
Pipe Racking Systems
Automated or semi-automated systems that store, retrieve, and position stands of drill pipe in the derrick or on horizontal racks. They include vertical racking arms, fingerboards, and horizontal-to-vertical handling arms used to build and break down stands.
Portable and Single-Joint Pipe Handlers
Compact, often hydraulically driven handlers used on workover, completion, and smaller drilling units to pick up, lay down, and position individual joints. They suit operations where a full power-catwalk installation is not warranted.
Bails and Links
Paired load-bearing links that hang from the hook or top drive and carry the elevators, transferring the suspended pipe load into the hoisting system. They are rated to API hoisting-equipment load classes and matched to the elevator and hook capacity.
Torque-Turn Monitoring Systems
Instrumentation that measures applied torque and rotational turns during connection makeup, comparing results against a defined envelope to confirm a proper connection. The systems log each joint for quality assurance on casing and premium-connection running.
