6A Gate Valves

Single-piece (slab) gate valves in which one solid gate with a bore opening slides across the seats; the through-conduit design gives a smooth full-bore flow path and is common on wellheads and flow lines.

Two-piece gate-and-segment assemblies that mechanically expand at the fully open and fully closed positions to mechanically energize a seal against both upstream and downstream seats, providing positive bi-directional sealing.

Gate valves using a tapered (wedge-shaped) gate that seats against matching angled seats to achieve shutoff; used where a metal-to-metal wedging seal is preferred.

Gate valves with metal-to-metal sealing surfaces designed to hold pressure from either direction, used in abrasive, high-temperature, or HPHT service where elastomer seats are unsuitable.

Gate valves arranged on choke, kill, and production manifolds to route and isolate flow between lines; typically flanged or studded to API 6A end connections for surface pressure-control piping.

Smaller-bore API 6A gate valves with threaded (e.g., line pipe or API connection) ends used for instrument, bleed, and auxiliary connections on wellheads and trees.

Gate valves rated to the 20,000 psi working-pressure class for deep, high-pressure wells, built to the more stringent material, wall-thickness, and testing requirements at the top of the API 6A pressure range.

Gate valves fitted with hydraulic or pneumatic fail-safe actuators that close automatically on loss of control pressure, used as surface safety valves (SSVs) and ESD valves in wellhead control systems.
