Reverse Buckling Rupture Discs
Discs installed with the concave (dome) side toward the process pressure so the membrane operates in compression and snaps through to burst. The geometry gives high cycle life, operating ratios up to about 90 percent, and clean non-fragmenting opening, making them the preferred choice when a relief valve sits downstream.
Forward-Acting Rupture Discs
Conventional tension-loaded discs with the concave side facing away from the process; pressure stretches the membrane until it tears. Simple and economical, they typically require a lower operating ratio (around 70 percent) and may use a vacuum support when back pressure or vacuum is present.
Composite Rupture Discs
Multi-layer assemblies combining a slotted or scored metal top section with a seal membrane and support, allowing low burst pressures and good corrosion resistance. They suit low-pressure service and applications needing a tight seal against the process fluid.
Graphite Rupture Discs
Monolithic discs machined from impervious graphite for high corrosion resistance against acids and aggressive chemicals. They burst cleanly without metal fatigue but are brittle and require careful handling and full vacuum or back-pressure consideration.
Non-Fragmenting Rupture Discs
Discs designed to open without expelling membrane fragments into the flow path, a requirement when a rupture disc is installed upstream of a relief valve or where downstream equipment could be damaged. Reverse-buckling and scored designs are common non-fragmenting types.
Sanitary Rupture Discs
Discs built to hygienic standards with crevice-free, polished wetted surfaces and tri-clamp or sanitary fittings, used where cleanability and product purity matter, such as chemical, biocide, and additive handling skids.
High-Pressure Rupture Discs
Discs rated for elevated burst pressures used in hydraulic fracturing, well-control, and high-pressure pumping and manifold systems, typically employing thicker or specially scored metal membranes and heavy holder assemblies.
Rupture Disc Holders and Accessories
The insert, holder, or union assembly that clamps and seats the disc between flanges, plus burst sensors and alarm indicators that signal when a disc has actuated. Correct holder torque and orientation are essential to achieving the rated burst pressure.
