Southeast Texas Industries, Inc., operating as STI Group, is a privately owned, full-service industrial contractor headquartered in Bridge City, Texas. Founded in 1978 as Southeast Texas Metal Works by Richard Purkey in an 8,000 sq ft sheet metal shop, the company has grown over 40+ years into one of the largest land-based drilling rig manufacturers in the world. STI Group serves America's energy markets (upstream, midstream, downstream) along with chemical, refining, petrochemical, power generation, pulp & paper, and aerospace industries. Core capabilities include complex structural steel fabrication, pipe fabrication (3,500+ spools/month, up to 60-inch diameter), mechanical and civil construction, boiler services, and drilling rig manufacturing (300+ complete land rigs fabricated by 2013). The company holds ASME U, S, and NBIC R stamps and is licensed with the API 4F Monogram for drilling and well servicing structures. STI Group operates over 450,000 sq ft of fabrication shop space across multiple Southeast Texas facilities in Buna, Bridge City, Orange, Vidor, Port Arthur, Beaumont, and McAllen, with additional past operations in Pharr, TX and Pennsylvania. The company introduced robotic welding at its Buna facility in 2024 and broke ground on a new corporate headquarters in 2025.
