Fishing Tools

Tools that slip over the outside of a fish and grip it with a spiral or basket grapple to pull it free. They are the primary catch tool for retrieving stuck or parted drill pipe, tubing, and tool joints.

Tools, including casing spears and tubing spears, that enter the inside diameter of a fish and expand slips to grip it internally. They are used to retrieve casing, liners, and tubular sections that cannot be engaged from the outside.

Tools that capture loose debris—bit cones, slips, hand tools, and metal fragments—too small or irregular to grab directly. Core-type, reverse-circulation, and poor-boy designs trap junk in an internal barrel as fluid circulates.

Permanent-magnet tools run downhole to recover small ferrous junk such as bit cones, bearings, and broken bit teeth from the bottom of the hole. They are often run with a junk basket to catch non-magnetic debris released during retrieval.

Inclined deflection tools, including casing whipstocks and whipstock systems, that divert a mill or bit away from an unrecoverable fish or out of existing casing to drill a new wellbore path. They are used when retrieval is impractical and a sidetrack is required.

Impact tools that deliver upward or downward hammer blows to free a stuck fish, with accelerators storing energy to intensify the jar stroke. They are run in the fishing string above the catch tool to work the fish loose.

Light-duty catch tools—including wire grabs, wire spears, rope spears, and pulling tools—designed to recover broken wireline, slickline, and small downhole devices. They are run on slickline or braided line during wireline intervention.

Compact, connector-equipped catch and pulling tools sized to run on coiled tubing for retrieval in live or restricted-access wells. They allow fishing without a workover rig where coiled tubing access is preferred.
