Float Shoes
Run on the very bottom of the casing string, a float shoe combines a tapered, rounded nose to guide casing past ledges with an internal check valve that prevents cement and wellbore fluid from re-entering the casing. The body is constructed of drillable material for later removal.
Float Collars
Installed one or two joints above the float shoe, a float collar contains a back-pressure check valve and provides the seat where top and bottom cementing plugs land, defining the shoe track of cement that remains uncontaminated below it.
Guide Shoes
A guide shoe has a contoured nose to steer the casing through the borehole but contains no check valve; it is used where float function is provided by a separate float collar or where backflow control is not required.
Auto-Fill (Differential-Fill) Float Equipment
Auto-fill float shoes and collars allow controlled fluid entry as casing is run, letting the string self-fill to reduce surge pressure and running time. The auto-fill feature is converted to a conventional one-way check valve by ball drop or pump rate before cementing.
Stage Cementing Collars
A stage cementing collar provides ports that open partway up the casing string so cement can be placed in two or more separate stages, used to cement long intervals, isolate zones, or avoid exposing weak formations to a full hydrostatic cement column.
Reamer Shoes
A reamer shoe incorporates cutting structures or a hardened, eccentric nose so the casing can ream past doglegs, ledges, and tight spots while still being run to bottom, often combined with float-valve function.
Non-Rotating / Drillout-Optimized Float Equipment
These float shoes and collars use internal components engineered to resist spinning during drillout, allowing faster, cleaner removal with PDC bits in conventional and monobore applications.
