Two-Phase Production Separators
Vessels that split the wellstream into gas and liquid, removing free gas before the liquid moves downstream. Built in horizontal, vertical, or spherical forms and sized for a given gas/liquid ratio and operating pressure.
Three-Phase Separators
Separators that resolve the stream into gas, oil, and water in a single vessel using a weir or boot to divide the two liquid phases. Used where produced water must be split from crude at the separation stage.
Free-Water Knockouts
Vessels that remove the bulk of free (uncoalesced) water from an oil-water-gas stream ahead of treating or heating. They reduce downstream heat and chemical load by dropping out water that settles readily by gravity.
Test Separators
Portable or skid-mounted separators equipped with metering to measure individual well oil, gas, and water rates during well testing and production allocation. Often rated for high pressure and rapid hookup.
Filter and Coalescing Separators
Gas separators using filter elements or coalescer media to capture fine liquid mists and solid particulate that gravity vessels miss. Applied for gas conditioning upstream of compression, metering, or dehydration.
Slug Catchers
Large vessels or finger-tube manifolds at the end of gathering lines that absorb intermittent liquid slugs and surges from multiphase flow. They buffer flow so downstream processing sees a steadier liquid rate.
Centrifugal Separators
Disk-stack and decanter centrifuges that use high G-force to separate liquids of differing density or to dewater solids and sludge. Used for fine oil-water separation, sludge dewatering, and clarification beyond gravity settling limits.
Flotation Units
Dissolved or induced air/gas flotation systems that attach gas bubbles to dispersed oil droplets and suspended solids, floating them to a skimmed surface. Applied in produced-water and oily-wastewater polishing.
Mud-Gas Separators
Drilling-fluid vessels (poor-boy degassers) that liberate and vent free gas entrained in returning drilling mud before it reaches the shale shakers. A well-control component that diverts gas safely to the flare or vent line.
