Treatments that inject acid below the formation fracturing pressure to dissolve near-wellbore damage and restore the rock's natural permeability without creating fractures. Used primarily to remove formation damage and improve injectivity or productivity.

Stimulation of limestone and dolomite reservoirs using hydrochloric acid, which reacts with the carbonate rock to create wormholes or etched flow channels. Strength is commonly 15 percent or 28 percent HCl depending on temperature and reactivity goals.

Treatment of silica-bearing sandstone formations with a hydrofluoric/hydrochloric acid blend, often preceded by an HCl preflush, to dissolve clays, feldspars, and siliceous fines that restrict flow. Requires careful sequencing to avoid damaging precipitates.

Spotting and squeezing acid against a specific interval, perforations, or wellbore hardware to dissolve scale, cement, or near-perforation damage. An acid wash circulates acid to clean the wellbore rather than penetrate deep into the formation.

Techniques that force acid to treat the full target interval uniformly rather than channeling into the most permeable zones. Methods include chemical diverters, foamed acid, benzoic-acid flakes, and degradable solids such as rock-salt or bio-ball diverters.

Acid treatments energized with nitrogen to create a foam that improves diversion, reduces fluid loss, and aids flowback in low-pressure or water-sensitive reservoirs. Particularly useful for cleanup and for limiting acid leak-off.

Acidizing programs engineered for long horizontal laterals, combining staged placement and diversion to distribute acid along the wellbore. Common in unconventional carbonate plays and in basins such as the Permian Basin.

Treatments that remove drilling-mud filter cake, scale, and trapped water (water blocks) from the near-wellbore region using acid combined with surfactants and mutual solvents. Restores production or injectivity impaired by formation damage.
